Here are great tours that we can recommend!
A Taste of Africa
A Taste of Africa prides itself with operating an un-Zoo-like Tour of Soweto. It is purely community based and is a real one day experience. They collect you from Melville Manor and drop you off at your guides home in Soweto. There is walking, local taxi trips and a local meal included in the day. You can also request to come back via the Apartheid Museum. This small company is highly recommended.
Gerald & his team are extremely passionate about the Johannesburg's Inner City and he has been an integral part of the revival. As well as an unbelievable tour guide, he is an author & a great influencer in the set up of Joziburg Lane at One Eloff.
Past Experiences is a great little company doing great tours.Tours are often in collaboration with local artists. They have a great selection of tours and huge amounts of energy and inspiration that all seems to get put back into the inner city as well as community projects.
Jo and her team are fantastic guides. Her tours are all walking and she also specialises in Soweto, Archaeological and Photographic Tours.
Have a look at their website to see the upcoming tours.
City Sightseeing Joburg Bus
This is the Hop On - Hop Off Bus Tour which is probably in most big cities around the world. It is a superb & affordable way to tick the interesting parts of Joburg off, while still have some flexibility and to get a good feel of what our City is about.
The bus goes past Carlton Centre, Apartheid museum, Newtown, Constitution Hill and a lot more.
The trip can become quite long but with the ear phones on board one gets a great account of the different areas as you go.
Joburg Free Walking Tours

The city centre tour starts at 10:30am and another one starts at 1:00pm.
The Braamfontein Tour starts at 3:30pm
